Schools Closed
Due to air quality concerns and the health and safety of our staff and students, all Hueneme Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, December 13-15. We will reopen after Winter Break on Wednesday, January 3rd.

Due to the state of emergency, we are eligible to apply for exemption for the days missed. This means we will not need to make up the days or alter our calendar for the rest of the school year. We know there were many holiday related events and activities planned for this week that have now been cancelled or postponed, the decisions made were based on student and staff safety remaining our number one priority. We look forward to welcoming our students back in the new year.

A Message From the Principal....
Dear Hathaway Families,

Although it was an abrupt end to 2017, it was necessary to close the school to ensure the safety of everyone, especially our students. We thank you for patience and understanding. Many places have sold out of the N95 masks. The following places have them for free: •Oxnard College Gymnasium – Red Cross Shelter, 4000 S Rose Ave
•North Las Islas Family Medical Group, 2400 S C St
•South Las Islas Family Medical Group, 2400 S C St
•Ventura County Public Health-South, 2500 S C St
•Ventura County Public Health-North, 2240 E Gonzales Rd
•United Farm Workers, 920 South A St
Many School functions were cancelled due to the closure, including parent conferences. We will reschedule the trimester assemblies to a later date in January. You should have received your child's report card and conferences will only be held as needed.

It's hard to believe we are already in December. It always seems that the year goes by too fast. Shortly we will return from the holiday break and we will be preparing to hold our school spelling bee, celebrate the 100th day of school, writing celebrations, staff appreciation, Read Across America, and much more.

Looking for a few gift ideas, especially ones that don't cost a lot of money? This holiday season give your child and family the gift of time. Relax at the park for a day and have a picnic. Take a nature walk. Visit the local library. Enjoy a meal together as a family. Have a night with the family and enjoy a board game together. Take your children to any volunteer center to help victims of the Thomas fire.
The most important things in life are family and friends, so this holiday season make an effort to spend time with both. This holiday season make some wonderful memories with your children by spending quality time with them. The time you spend with them doesn't have to involve a theme park or a resort. It can be reading a book, playing catch, decorating cookies, or playing a game. This holiday season is all about giving, and the quality time you spend together can be better than anything wrapped up in a bow under the tree.

Please remember that students should continue to read, write, and practice math facts over winter vacation! Reading and writing can be about topics they enjoy and shared with parents and siblings. Students can also write some resolutions to ring in 2018!

To all of our Hathaway Families, staff, and students, wishing you the happiest of holidays and a prosperous new year for all! I look forward to seeing you on January 3, 2018.

Ms. Perez, Principal
